Honoring Yourself for Who You Are - Articles Surfing

The best way to rebuild self esteem is to become your own best friend.

In order to do this, it very helpful if you first truly forgive. Once you have truly forgiven everyone in your life, including yourself, you are FREE to truly move forward and create a new destiny for yourself.

Remember, the world in which we live reflects back to us how much we value ourselves. You can be the best artist, the best writer, the best engineer, the best mother--you can be absolute great at something, and yet receive no appreciation from anyone. Because the world will not honor you, until you first honor yourself.

Many of us have been taught not to honor ourselves. The people in this world are great at judging others, and making them feel small in order to establish controls and make people conform. How do they do this? Well'I discuss this in other articles, but I will touch on it here.

Whatever you are, unless you have most truly loving parents and family, you will probably hear statements like these most of your life: 'You're not good enough. You're not smart enough. You're too smart for your own good. You're too ugly'or too pretty. You're getting too big for your britches. You're too fat'you're too thin'You're lazy'you try too hard'you make everyone jealous.'

Get the picture? No matter WHAT you are, WHO you are, or WHAT you do'Someone, somewhere will try to make you feel bad about it. Depending on your environment and how often this was done to you, in addition to other forms of brainwashing and/or abuse, most of us grow up not valuing ourselves.

Even those who put on a good show, and act confident are often putting on a front to gain approval. Very few people have developed what I call true inner confidence, true self-esteem, and a true belief in themselves. They usually listen to others first, and themselves last.

This is one reason many people never accomplish their dreams. Of course, there are varying degrees of these feelings of worthlessness. Some people still manage to have a descent life, although many feel as though they are 'imposters.' Some, who have been destroyed, just can't wait to die. No matter where you are in your life, it IS possible to change this.

So'where do we start, when we want to turn this all around? One of the best places to start is to value who you are, right now.

Make a commitment to start doing the things YOU enjoy, to bring more happiness into your life. Let go of some obligations that have become burdens to you. Often you'll find they are easier to let go of than you ever realized.

Just start enjoying some time with YOU. Reading, writing, being in Nature, enjoying a good movie or going for a walk, just with yourself. Can you do it? And let yourself enjoy it, and not feel guilty? This is your life. If you can't start enjoying it now, wherever you are, you probably never will. Even if you start with 30 minutes day. Take the time for YOU.

Note: The only exception to this would be if you are in an abusive relationship that you need to leave. If that's the case, you must care enough about yourself and your life--and if your have children, you must care enough about them, too--to remove yourself from harm as quickly as you can. I am talking about emotional abuse as well as physical abuse. As long as you're in that kind of prison and dark energy, it will be nearly impossible to regain control of your life, let alone find any joy. Believe me, I know this will not be easy. I've been there.
