How Do I Start An Internet Business And Still Maintain My Home Privacy - Articles Surfing


When operating your own business from home it doesn't mean that your private life is an open book to be read by the world. You would have to set boundaries for your professional and private life to insure that your work is not constantly interrupted by your family and friends. You will have to establish specific hours for work and at end of the work day go home. If you allow your home business to consume every moment of your day you will surely burn out and this will create a huge interruption to your private and family's life.

If you could afford it at the inception of your business you should have a separate telephone line that is only for the businesses also install an answering machine to collect messages after working hours, only if clients leave messages that are absolutely an emergency then call them back on the next working day. If at all possible, try hard to avoid giving out your home phone number to your customers as an additional contact . You never know if your son or daughter will answer the telephone leaving a really bad impression on an existing or potential clients.

There are several services that will cross paths between your personal life and work life and trying to understand where they meet will assist you keep stay sane when operating from your home. When you are now starting a home business, it might be very easy for your spouse and family members to ask you to do odd jobs around the home while they are out at work. You would have to gently remind them that you are at work and will be working and that you don't have the time to do laundry, wash the dishes, or maybe just step out and pick up a few items in the supermarket.

Unless your home business requires you to meet with customers and you can't get around it, try not to entertain customers and business partners at your home. The best thing is that clients under no circumstances should know your house address. Using telephone and email for customers contact is probable the best way to maintain privacy, as you would not want an angry clients knocking on your door while you are eating dinner with your family. A P.O box does not cost allot of money and can be very useful for shipping and can help you protect you and your family's privacy.

Don't forget, this is your bread and butter and you must try to keep at the top of your head that your wife, husband and kids are not staff members. You might be working out from a home office but remember it is also your family's house and you must ensure you have set boundaries in place. Just as you don't want them stepping over into your work space when you're working, you must show the same degree of respect to your spouse and family members by not allowing your work to cross over into their personal space.
