Pain Pain Go Away, Ole' Johnny Wants To Play - Articles Surfing

After working hard for so many years to put food on the table, to raise a family and to finance the college education of the kids, Ole' Johnny is looking forward to having all the time in the world dedicated to fun, excitement and traveling upon his retirement. Fishing, camping, hiking and even scuba diving are just some of the exhilarating activities that soon-to-be retired Johnny is looking forward to enjoy.

But alas! Poor Johnny is suffering from arthritis and the excruciating pain brought about by condition could prevent him from doing all the fun things that he has been dreaming of and anticipating.

Like Johnny, if you are one of the many Americans who love to eat steaks, fastfood goodies and other not-so-healthy food, then there is a big chance that you will have arthritis when you reach senior years. The pain caused by this condition is not a laughing matter. When your joint aches strike, you will not be able to play golf, go hiking, let alone stand up and walk.

So what do Johnny and you need to do? How are you going to zap the pain away? Read on and discover the things you can do to eliminate arthritic pain in your life and enjoy your twilight years dancing, romancing and just having the time of your life. Hey, you deserve it!

Choose What You Eat

If you want to get rid of pain, you need to sacrifice a little. Instead of reaching out for that juicy steak, savory hamburger and those greasy fries from your favorite diner, you better reach for some salad instead. Other stuff to avoid when you have arthritis are sugar, salt, processed food, soda, dry roasted peanuts and other type of nuts, alcohol, red pepper, and eggplant. You may also want to minimize bad cholesterol or saturated and hydrogenated fat.

The list of food that are beneficial to people suffering from arthritis includes: fruits, green leafy vegetables, cruciferous vegetables, dark orange produce, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, brown rice and whole wheat bread, yogurt, cheese, garlic, ginger and apple.

Supplement Your Diet

It is hard to get all the vitamins and minerals that your body needs to fight arthritis from the food that we eat. So, the best way to reach your daily requirement of nutrients is by taking multivitamins or supplements.

Make sure that the supplements you take have the following minerals that are known to help prevent further development of arthritis and minimize pain: calcium, boron, zinc, magnesium, germanium, copper and sulfur. Vitamins you need to have stronger bones, more lubricated joints and a healthy body are: Vitamins D, K, A, C, and the B vitamins. Essential fatty acids, such as Omega 3, 6 and 9 are also helpful in dealing with arthritis and other diseases.

Shed Off Some Pounds

Simple logic will tell you that packing on the pounds will have a great impact on the health of your bones and joints, particularly on the lower part of your body. If you are overweight and obese, the bones and joints on your knees, feet and back will degenerate faster. Thus, if you dream of playing golf, dancing the salsa and swimming underwater with the dolphins, you better do something about your weight now.

Shake That Booty

Many people suffering from arthritis do not want to move at all because of the extreme pain. However, if you do not move, your bones and joints will harden. Thus, try some stretching and light exercises. Tai Chi and stretching exercises will make your joints loosen a bit.

Get Some Help

If you experience arthritis pain, don't just sit on the corner and cry. Get some help. Try natural and herbal remedies, such as gently rubbing oil with crushed ginger or garlic on the affected area. You can also take painkillers. Just be sure to veer away from pain relievers that cause ulcerations and coronary problems.
